Her parents were English immigrants <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=551\">Edward Stow<\/a> and Emily Pike.\u00a0 Maud\u00a0 was the third of eight children born to the couple.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Unfortunately Maud\u2019s father Edward, a bootmaker and cabinet maker, was a chronic alcoholic. In an attempt to solve his drinking problems, he sold his furniture warehouse \u00a0at 144 Chapel Street Prahran, and bought a 98 acre property in Boho called \u201cHilly Park\u201d in 1892. They had five children,\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/michelledennishistory.wordpress.com\/alan-davis\/\">Alan Edward<\/a>\u00a0in 1905, then Eileen in 1907, Laurence in 1908, Ronald in 1912 and Francis in 1914. The children all attended primary school at Warrenbayne West.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Maud played the violin, and often entertained at district concerts and dances.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\">\r\n<div id=\"attachment_8346\" style=\"width: 295px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8346\" class=\" wp-image-8346\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Maud-Brian-Sam-Davis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"285\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Maud-Brian-Sam-Davis.jpg 1380w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Maud-Brian-Sam-Davis-213x300.jpg 213w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Maud-Brian-Sam-Davis-727x1024.jpg 727w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Maud-Brian-Sam-Davis-768x1082.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Maud-Brian-Sam-Davis-1090x1536.jpg 1090w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8346\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maud &#8211; Brian &#8211; Sam Davis<\/p><\/div>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p>Maud was very close to her mother Emily, and spent a lot of time with her, especially after her father\u2019s death in 1897.viol<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Maud worked hard all her life, milking the house cows, and helping her husband Sam\u00a0on the farm.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>During World War 1 she was involved with the local Red Cross branch, sewing sandbags for the trenches, knitting socks,\u00a0 making bandages out of calico, and raising money for the Red Cross fund.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>She was also involved in the St Dunstan\u2019s Church of England fundraising committee, helping out at the bazaar held at the Mechanics Institute in 1917 to raise money for debt on the rectory. She was ably assisted by Mesdames Miles, Jackson, Aldridge and Croxford. (Violet Town Sentinel 2 Oct 1917).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Samson and Maud retired to Anderson Street, Euroa in 1949, and he died in 1953. Maud continued to live in Euroa until her death on 5 May 1964, aged 84 years.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>She died at the home of her son Frank in Leonard Street, Sunshine.
