James Dennis in 1945<\/p><\/div>\n

James Dennis<\/strong> (junior) was born on 29 February 1876 in Normanby, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of James Dennis, senior, and Elizabeth Banks.<\/p>\n

James (senior)<\/a> was a carpenter, joiner and wagonwright (wagon maker\/repairer). James was the fifth of six children born to the couple.<\/p>\n

St Peters, Osmotherley<\/p><\/div>\n

He was baptised on 28 May 1876 at the parish church of St Peter, Osmotherley, North Yorkshire, 16 miles away.<\/p>\n

The family lived at 4 Bulmer Street in Normanby until James was 15, and then they moved to 53 Vaughan Street in Grangetown, Eston. In 1891 young James was described as a fitters apprentice, living with his parents, sisters Ann and Mary.<\/p>\n

James’ mother Elizabeth died when James turned 23 in January 1900.<\/p>\n

Six months later on 4 July 1900 James married 8 months pregnant, 19 year old Edith Mary Skelton at St Johns, South Bank. They lived at 60 Napier Street, South bank. Their daughter Doris was born 5 weeks later.<\/p>\n

Edith was born in 1880 in Hovingham, Yorkshire to parents William Skelton, a labourer and Mary Ann Cooper.<\/p>\n

James and Edith had a large family of nine children –<\/p>\n
