James was now described as a marine engine fitter. They had their two year old daughter Doris living with them.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1674\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1674\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1674\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/James-Dennis-48-Upper-Milbank-Street-South-Bank-Eston-2-300x269.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/James-Dennis-48-Upper-Milbank-Street-South-Bank-Eston-2-300x269.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/James-Dennis-48-Upper-Milbank-Street-South-Bank-Eston-2-768x687.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/James-Dennis-48-Upper-Milbank-Street-South-Bank-Eston-2.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1674\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">48 Upper Milbank Street, Eston<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By 1911 the family had moved to 48 Upper Milbank Street, Eston, living in a four roomed house.<\/p>\n<p>There were seven of them living there, and James was described as a turner and fitter in the steel manufacturing engineering works.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When war broke out in 1939, James was in a reserved occupation which included certain classes of industrial worker e.g. coal miners, train drivers and those working in the shipyards, those in the iron and steel industries especially in factories which were producing vital ammunition and equipment for the front lines.<\/p>\n<p>So on the 1939 England and Wales register, James and Edith can be found listed with their\u00a0 two youngest children William and Marie in 27 Pochin Road, Eston, with James as a heavy metal worker, fitter and turner at the steelworks along with his son William, who was a brass finisher. Daughter Marie was a comptometer book keeper at the steelworks in the office.<\/p>\n<p>After the war the family moved to 80 Pym Street in Eston, Southbank.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1843\" style=\"width: 597px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1843\" class=\" wp-image-1843\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pym-Street-Eston-Yorkshire-300x90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"587\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pym-Street-Eston-Yorkshire-300x90.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pym-Street-Eston-Yorkshire-768x231.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pym-Street-Eston-Yorkshire.jpg 876w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1843\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pym Street, Eston<\/p><\/div>\n<p>James died there on 3 June 1950 aged 74, and is buried in the Eston Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>In his will he left 303 pounds to his wife Edith.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1853\" style=\"width: 93px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1853\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1853\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/edith-dennis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"83\" height=\"93\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1853\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Edith Dennis<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Edith lived for another 22 years, and died in January 1972 aged 91.<\/p>\n<p>She is also buried in the Eston Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Edith Mary Skelton was born on 8 September 1880 in Hovingham, Yorkshire and baptised there at All Saints Church of England on 17 October 1880.
