In 1798 Mary was living at the home of her brother or uncle John Bell in Hexham, a shoemaker, and paid 6d in tax on the property on 4 June 1799.<\/p>\n<p>At the age of 29 Andrew married <strong>Priscilla Wraith<\/strong> on 28 January 1828 at St Hildas, Market Place, South Shields, Durham.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2090\" style=\"width: 411px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2090\" class=\" wp-image-2090\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/St-Bees-Cumbria-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/St-Bees-Cumbria-300x201.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/St-Bees-Cumbria.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2090\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Bees Cumbria<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Priscilla was born in St Bees near Whitehaven, Cumberland in 1803, the daughter of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=4946\">Matthew Wraith (1780-1831) and Isabella Brown (1781-1858).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>She was baptised there on 14 October 1803. Matthew was an iron ore miner and pitman.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Andrew and Priscilla had eight children &#8211;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>1829 Mary b Chirton, North Shields<\/li>\n<li>1831 Matthew b Chirton, North Shields, d 1909 Tynemouth, married Ann Stephenson<\/li>\n<li>1833 Thomas b Chirton, North Shields, d 1901 Hexham,\u00a0 married Margaret Barrass<\/li>\n<li>1835 Hannah b Chirton, North Shields, d 1928 Hamsterley, married William Wraith<\/li>\n<li>1838 Priscilla b Chirton, North Shields, d 1868 Tynemouth, married John Cooper Reed<\/li>\n<li>1841 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=2033\">William<\/a> b Chirton d 1890 Brotton, married Priscilla Wraith<\/li>\n<li>1844 Isabella b Chirton, North Shields, d 1866 Tynemouth, married Joseph Baker<\/li>\n<li>1846 Andrew b Chirton, North Shields, d 1931 British Columbia, married Ann Knox<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>CHIRTON<\/strong>, <em>a township in Tynemouth parish, Northumberland; on the river Tyne and the North Shields railway, \u00be of a mile W of North Shields. It has a post office under North Shields. Acres, 1, 730. Pop., 5, 544. Houses, 1, 047. There were extensive collieries here; but they have been worked out. He is listed with his wife Priscilla and their children Mary, Matthew, Thomas, Hannah and Priscilla.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1940\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1940\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1940\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/old-tailor-pic-220x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/old-tailor-pic-220x300.jpg 220w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/old-tailor-pic.jpg 236w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1940\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">an old tailor<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ten years later in 1851 Andrew and Priscilla were still living in Chirton, North Shields and had seven children living with them.<\/p>\n<p>The oldest daughter Mary was not living at home, she was out working as a domestic servant with the Spence family.<\/p>\n<p>In 1861 the family were living in Chirton village, with only three unmarried sons Thomas a brass founder, William a blacksmith, and Andrew Sand Mill labourer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Jemson died on 7 January 1864 in Chirton due to heart disease. His occupation was given as master tailor, by his son Matthew. He was 65 years old. He is buried in the Tynemouth General cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Priscilla Jemson died in Chirton on 29 March 1870 of cancer aged 66 years.
