{"id":6209,"date":"2020-09-20T11:02:55","date_gmt":"2020-09-20T01:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6209"},"modified":"2024-03-11T17:11:16","modified_gmt":"2024-03-11T06:11:16","slug":"robert-littlepage-and-maria-smith","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6209","title":{"rendered":"Robert Littlepage and Martha Smith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Robert Littlepage<\/strong> <strong>3<\/strong> was born in 1676 in Aston Rowant, the son of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6247\">Robert Littlepage (1650-1679) and Ann Gravet (d 1683).<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/aston-rowant-parish-church2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-350 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/aston-rowant-parish-church2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"195\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/aston-rowant-parish-church2.jpg 279w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/aston-rowant-parish-church2-231x300.jpg 231w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 195px) 100vw, 195px\" \/><\/a>Robert was baptised at the parish church of St Peter and St Paul in Aston Rowant on 8 September 1676. The parish register is written in latin.<\/p>\n<p>The family appear to be fairly well off, and his father Robert senior is always described as a gentleman in the records.<\/p>\n<p>At the age of 27 Robert junior married <strong>Martha Smith<\/strong> on 8 April 1703 at the parish church in Emmington, Oxfordshire.<\/p>\n<p>The couple married by license (Calendar of Marriage Licenses issued by the Faculty Offices 1632-1714), and on that document stated that Robert was of Kingston Under the Hills, a widower and Martha Smith was of Emmington, a spinster. Her mother gave her consent as her father had died.<\/p>\n<p>Given that Robert describes himself as a widower, he must have been married before, but I&#8217;ve been unable to find another marriage for him yet in either the parish registers or the Marriage Licenses issued by the Faculty Office indexes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6184\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/St-Andrews-Chinnor-Oxfordshire.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6184\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6184\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/St-Andrews-Chinnor-Oxfordshire.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6184\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Andrews Chinnor Oxfordshire<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Martha Smith was born in Chinnor and baptised there on 26 June 1697.<\/p>\n<p>Martha was the daughter of William Smith (Guilielmi in latin).<\/p>\n<p>Robert and Martha had five children which were all baptised at Aston Rowant &#8211;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Martha b 1703<\/li>\n<li>Robert b 1705 d 1705<\/li>\n<li>Anna b 1706<\/li>\n<li>Elizabeth b 1708 &amp; d 1708<\/li>\n<li>Elizabeth b 1709<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Robert&#8217;s wife Martha Littlepage, nee Smith, died (probably in childbirth) with her last child Elizabeth, and was buried at Aston Rowant in 1709, aged 31 years.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Littlepage married again on 26 May 1713 to widow <strong>Martha Allnut<\/strong>, the widow of John Whitefield who died in 1708 in Maidenhead Berkshire. John left an extensive will.<\/p>\n<p>Martha Allnut was born in 1672, the daughter of George Allnut 1646-1705 and Martha Tipping 1650-1706.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Littlepage and Martha (nee Allnut) had four children baptised at Aston Rowant &#8211;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Catherine b 1715<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6178\"><strong>Mary<\/strong> <\/a>b 1716 &amp; d 1782 Aston Rowant, marr Henry Rixon 6 children.<\/li>\n<li>Frances b 1719 &amp; d 1719<\/li>\n<li>Susannah b 1721 marr Michael House 1748 &amp; William Dodsworth 1787<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"attachment_5953\" style=\"width: 274px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-3-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5953\" class=\" wp-image-5953\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-3-1.jpg 1889w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-3-1-300x215.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-3-1-1024x732.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-3-1-768x549.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-3-1-1536x1099.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5953\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aston Rowant churchyard<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Robert Littlepage, a gentleman, died on 12 August 1725 in Aston Rowant and was buried in the churchyard of St Peter and St Paul, Aston Rowant on 14 August 1725.<\/p>\n<p>Martha Littlepage (nee Allnut) died in 1742 and is buried at Aston Rowant.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote a will on 1 March 1742, describing herself as a widow in Aston Rowant, weak in body, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Her bequests were as follows &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a gold ring worth 10s to my daughter Mary, now wife of Harry Rixon<\/li>\n<li>my estate in Ipsden to my daughter Catherine<\/li>\n<li>my estate in Nettlebed to my daughter Susan<\/li>\n<li>residue of my goods, chattels, real and personal estate to my two daughters Catherine and Susan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Catherine and Susan Littlepage were made joint executrices.
