{"id":6292,"date":"2020-09-22T11:44:31","date_gmt":"2020-09-22T01:44:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6292"},"modified":"2020-09-23T15:19:14","modified_gmt":"2020-09-23T05:19:14","slug":"richard-croxford-and-elisabeth-house","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6292","title":{"rendered":"Richard Croxford and Elisabeth House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Richard Croxford<\/strong> was born in 1708 in Aston Rowant to parents <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6311\">John Croxford (1677-1735) and Dorothy Weller (1679-1735).<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5878\" style=\"width: 195px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5878\" class=\" wp-image-5878\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"185\" height=\"139\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-1.jpg 1913w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-1-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Aston-Rowant-2019-1-1536x1152.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 185px) 100vw, 185px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5878\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Peter and St Paul, Aston Rowant<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Richard was baptised at St Peter and St Paul in Aston Rowant on 18 April 1708.<\/p>\n<p>Richard was one of 8 children born to the couple.<\/p>\n<p>Richard was a blacksmith in Aston Rowant, like his father John before him.<\/p>\n<p>At the age of 33 on 20 August 1741, Richard married 27 year old <strong>Elizabeth House<\/strong> at Aston Rowant.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6083\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/St-Leonards-Watlington.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6083\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6083\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/St-Leonards-Watlington.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6083\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Leonards Watlington<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Elizabeth was born in 1714 in nearby Watlington, Oxfordshire, the daughter of Robert and Mary House.<\/p>\n<p>She was baptised at Watlington on 18 February 1714.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth was one of seven children born to the couple.<\/p>\n<p>Richard and Elizabeth had the following children &#8211;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Richard b 1741 &amp; d 1815 Aston Rowant, marr Sarah Nellum. 8 children.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6165\"><strong>Elizabeth<\/strong> <\/a>b 1744 &amp; d 1829 Aston Rowant, marr Robert Rixon. 4 children.<\/li>\n<li>Robert b 1746 &amp; d 1815 Aston Rowant, marr Sarah Cleydon, 2 children.<\/li>\n<li>Mary b 1748 &amp; d 1812 Asto Rowant, marr Mathew Badger<\/li>\n<li>John b 1751 &amp; d 1822 Aston Rowant, marr Hannah Green, 4 children. John&#8217;s son Francis 1791-1845 married Mary Britnell, sister to my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=5863\">Maria Britnell<\/a>. Francis and Mary&#8217;s son James Croxford immigrated to Australia in 1844 and died in Violet Town, Victoria, Australia in 1893.<\/li>\n<li>James b 1753 d 1822 Aston Rowant marr Martha Rixon, 3 children.<\/li>\n<li>Mabel b 1756 &amp; d 1834 Aston Rowant, unmarried.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Note &#8211; there are two James Croxfords born in Aston Rowant around the same time. One of them married Martha Rixon (daughter of my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6178\">Harry Rixon &amp; Mary Littlepage<\/a>) on 17 Oct 1775 in Aston Rowant. I assume it is James, son of Richard above.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>James, son of Richard &amp; Elizabeth, baptised 29 Nov 1753 (child 6 above)<\/li>\n<li>James, son of William &amp; Elizabeth, baptised 14 Aug 1748<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Richard worked as a blacksmith, as did his son Richard after him in Aston Rowant.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/old-blacksmith.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6300 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/old-blacksmith.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"345\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/old-blacksmith.jpg 520w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/old-blacksmith-300x241.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/a>Richard wrote a will on 29th August 1772 in &#8216;perfect mind and memory&#8217; and left the following bequests &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to his beloved wife Elizabeth, all his land, mortgages, tenements, goods, chattels and implements,\u00a0blacksmithing tools and business<\/li>\n<li>then to his son Richard, wages and then all the blacksmithing business<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The witnesses to the will were John Hester, James Horney, and John East.
