Attended Oxford 1740. There is lots of information available about Rev John Rawbone. He attended Oxford (Magdelan College) and gained his BA in 1748, and MA in 1765. He was the vicar at Winslow from 1765 and at Grandborough, Bucks until his death. In his will he left property to his sister Ann Stevens, and nephews.<\/li>\n<li>William b 1719 Drayton d 1779 Aylesbury, marr Sarah Cox, child Rev John Rawbone b 1743, d 1825.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=6853\"><strong>Thomas<\/strong> <\/a>b 1721 Drayton, married Mary? and had two children<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In 1760, after an outbreak of smallpox in the town of Aylesbury, the town was innoculated against the disease, and the following newspaper advertisement was placed in the Oxford Journal i the hope of &#8216;removing the apprehensions&#8217; of the townsfolk. John Rawbone, Vicar, certain old enclosures in New Mill Field containing 39 acres and for a compensation for all tithes of wool and lamb&#8211;open field land, and all other vicarial or small Tithes\u00a0 he was awarded three lots or parcels of land containing a total of 54a. 3r. 29p from which 3 acres were afterwards deducted for fences, as compensation for the loss of Common rights. He could then use this to fund the poor of the parish.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6889\" style=\"width: 339px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/John-Rawbone-Rev-b-143-d-1825-Vice-Prin-St-Mary-Hall-1775to1787-Oriel-College-Oxford-Uni.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6889\" class=\" wp-image-6889\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/John-Rawbone-Rev-b-143-d-1825-Vice-Prin-St-Mary-Hall-1775to1787-Oriel-College-Oxford-Uni.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"329\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/John-Rawbone-Rev-b-143-d-1825-Vice-Prin-St-Mary-Hall-1775to1787-Oriel-College-Oxford-Uni.jpg 764w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/John-Rawbone-Rev-b-143-d-1825-Vice-Prin-St-Mary-Hall-1775to1787-Oriel-College-Oxford-Uni-243x300.jpg 243w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 329px) 100vw, 329px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6889\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rev John Rawbone 1743-1825<\/p><\/div>\n<p>John&#8217;s grandson, the Rev John Rawbone, by his son William had his portrait painted in oils.<\/p>\n<p>Rev John was born in 1743 in Winslow, and was the Vice Principal of St Mary Hall, Oriel College at Oxford University from 1775 to 1787.<\/p>\n<p>The portrait was described as &#8211;<br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Rev John Rawbone 1743, entered Magdalen Hall ; Chaplain, Magdalen College ; Vice-Principal St. Mary Hall, 1787 ; D.D. 1804 ; d. 1825. Half length, seated facing the spectator, the head turned 3\/4; grey wig curled over ears ; clean-shaven face ; neckcloth and bands ; black gown ; his r. hand holds a pamphlet ; red curtain background ; view of church and buildings. Canvas 29 x 24^ in. A copy of this portrait was in the possession of the daughter of the subject in 1857.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There is a plaque in the church of St Mary the Virgin at Buckland, Buckinghamshire in memory of this Rev John, and also of his son the Rev Charles Bertie Rawbone who died in 1928. Fortunately the register advises this was indeed Elizabeth the wife of John.
