Sometimes the surname is recorded as Ellerington.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7942\" style=\"width: 241px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7942\" class=\" wp-image-7942\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/St-Peters-Bywell-Northumberland.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"173\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7942\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Peters, Bywell<\/p><\/div>\n<p>William was baptised 3 miles away on 22 February 1738 at St Peters, Bywell, Northumberland, England.<\/p>\n<p>His baptism registration states that he was the son of Robert Elrington of High Fotherley.<\/p>\n<p>High Fotherley is a farmstead\/hamlet located 6 miles south east of Hexham. It basically consisted of little more than two farms &#8211; High Fotherley and Low Fotherley.\u00a0\u00a0By 1848 it had grown into a small township with 106 inhabitants.<\/p>\n<p>William was most likely an agricultural labourer working around the farms and stables in the area, sometimes working in the coalmines as a pitman.<\/p>\n<p>William married <strong>Isabel Lowes<\/strong> on 16 November 1776 at Shotley, Northumberland. Shotley is less than six miles away from High Fotherley. There are a number of baptisms for Isabel Lowes around the area making it impossible to narrow down the correct one.<\/p>\n<p>William and Isabel had seven children together &#8211;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=7925\"><strong>Robert<\/strong> <\/a>b 1783 Northorn d 1831 Wallsend. Married Isabella Soulsby. 9 children.<\/li>\n<li>Elizabeth b 1786 Northorn married Thomas Davison. 8 children.<\/li>\n<li>William b 1788 Tanfield d 1831 Wallsend.<\/li>\n<li>Joseph b 1791 Red Row Beamish, d 1859. Marr Jane Gordon and Ann Maddox. 6 kids.<\/li>\n<li>Benjamin b 1794 Tanfield d 1826 Wallsend.<\/li>\n<li>Catherine b 1797 &amp; d 1804 Tanfield aged 6 years of Bog House, Tanfield.<\/li>\n<li>Thomas d 1797 Tanfield, son of William Ellerington of Pit Hill.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>William and Isabel lived firstly in the tiny pit village of Northorn, (Shield Row) a mile to the south of Tanfield.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7950\" style=\"width: 374px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7950\" class=\" wp-image-7950\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Shield-Row-near-Tanfield-Durham.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"364\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Shield-Row-near-Tanfield-Durham.jpg 521w, http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Shield-Row-near-Tanfield-Durham-244x300.jpg 244w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 364px) 100vw, 364px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7950\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shield Row near Tanfield Durham<\/p><\/div>\n<p>From there, following the available work in the coal mines, they moved closer to Tanfield, and possibly to Beamish, before returning to Tanfield. By 1804 they were living in the pit village of Bog House Lane near Kip Hill, close to Tanfield.<\/p>\n<p>William died on 13 October 1800 at Beamish aged 62 years.
