{"id":8292,"date":"2021-11-20T12:56:59","date_gmt":"2021-11-20T01:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=8292"},"modified":"2021-11-21T12:35:18","modified_gmt":"2021-11-21T01:35:18","slug":"james-milverton-and-elizabeth-scriven","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=8292","title":{"rendered":"James Milverton and Elizabeth Scriven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>James Milverton<\/strong> was born in 1722 in Winsham, Somerset, England to parents <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=8316\">James Milverton (1692-1773) and Amy Bailey (1694-1765).<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8254\" style=\"width: 282px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8254\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8254\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/St-Stephens-Winsham-Somerset-England.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"272\" height=\"185\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8254\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Stephens, Winsham, Somerset, England<\/p><\/div>\n<p>James was baptised on 11 Nov 1722 at St Stephens, Winsham.<\/p>\n<p>At the age of 24 James married <strong>Elizabeth Scriven<\/strong> on 3 June 1747 at St Stephens, Winsham.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Scriven was born in 1726 in Winsham to parents Robert Scriven and Mary Bennett. Her father Robert died in 1758 and her mother Mary died in 1756.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth had several siblings &#8211; Joan b 1714, Robert b 1716, George b 1720, Mary b 1722, John b 1724 and she was the last child born in 1726.<\/p>\n<p>Winsham was a small village in Somerset situated 2 1\/2 miles of Chard. In 1870 the population of the village was 1033 people, in only 204 houses.\u00a0The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.winshamwebmuseum.co.uk\/architecture&amp;estates\/history\/History%20Indices\/New%20Indexhistory0112.html\">Winsham Web Museum<\/a>\u00a0provides more information on the area.<\/p>\n<p>James and Elizabeth had nine children &#8211;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelledennis.com.au\/?page_id=8260\"><strong>James<\/strong> <\/a>b 1747 &amp; d 1829 Winsham. Marr Sarah Stanton. 9 children.<\/li>\n<li>Mariah b 1750 Chard<\/li>\n<li>John b 1753 d 13 Jan 1767 Winsham<\/li>\n<li>Sarah b 1756 &amp; d 1756 Winsham<\/li>\n<li>Henry b 1757 &amp; d 1761 Winsham<\/li>\n<li>William b 1760 &amp; d 1826 Winsham. Marr Martha Pulman. 3 children.<\/li>\n<li>Elizabeth b 1763 &amp; d 26 Jan 1767 Winsham<\/li>\n<li>Charles b 1766 &amp; d 1 Mar 1767 Winsham<\/li>\n<li>Elizabeth b 1769 married Thomas Miller, 6 children.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Tragically James and Elizabeth lost five children in a few years &#8211; and three within weeks of each in 1767 &#8211; John, Charles and Elizabeth, so perhaps a childhood disease tore through the family. So it appears only 3 out of 9 children made it to adulthood, married and had families of their own.<\/p>\n<p>James Milverton died in January 1773 in Winsham at the age of 50 and was buried at St Stephens in Winsham on 31 January 1773.<\/p>\n<p>His wife Elizabeth died five years later in October 1778 also at Winsham and was buried with her husband at St Stephens on 8 October 1778 aged 52.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>James Milverton was born in 1722 in Winsham, Somerset, England to parents James Milverton (1692-1773) and Amy Bailey (1694-1765).
