John Pickering (senior)<\/strong> was born in 1596 in Hackness, Yorkshire, England to parents William Pickrin 1578-1638 and Alice Redshaw.<\/a><\/p>\n

John was baptised at the parish church of St Peters, Hackness on 11 December 1596.<\/p>\n

John married Elizabeth, surname unknown around 1627 and they had seven children together –<\/p>\n

  3. Mary b 1632 d 1665<\/li>\n

  7. Margaret b 1635 d 1738 Rokeby. Married Christopher Lightfoote. 5 children.<\/li>\n
  8. William b 1636. Married Mercie Craven in 1674.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The marriage register entry dated 14 July 1657 in Hackness for Margaret, daughter of John and Elizabeth reads –<\/p>\n

    Christopher Leightfoote of Silfoe wheelright and Margarett Pickeringe <\/em>
    \nthe daughter of Elizabeth Pickeringe of Bickley within the <\/em>
    \nParish of Ebberston widdow were published the first tyme the <\/em>
    \nFowerteenth day of June ye second tyme upon the xxijth day.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Christopher Leightfoote was a widower (of Mercie) and had nine children, most dying as babies.<\/p>\n

    John\u00a0 died in November 1657 at Bickley. He was buried at St Peters Hackness on 28 November 1657.<\/p>\n

    There is a probate administration index file for a John Pickering, Harwood Dale who died in 1657.<\/p>\n

    NOTE – there is another John Pickering of Broxa, Hackness born 10 Nov 1605 married 24 Nov 1629 Mercy Cockerill. They had Mary 1631-1631, Mary 1632-1632, John 1636-1636 and Jayne 1637.
