Richard Banks<\/strong> was born in 1776 at Gilling and baptised at Gilling Near Helmsley, Yorkshire on 4 July 1776. Richard was the son of John Banks 1743-1809 and Elizabeth Taylor 1750-1807.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>At the age of 23 Richard married Elizabeth Hodgson on 28 February 1799 at Hovingham in Yorkshire.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth was the daughter of John Hodgson 1748-1823 and Elizabeth Garbutt 1757-1838.<\/p>\n

She was born in 1778 at Ampleforth in North Yorkshire and baptised on 6 December 1778 at nearby Oswaldkirk.<\/p>\n

Richard was a farmer in Ampleforth, and after his death his son Robert continued farming on the same property (1841, 1851, 1861 census).<\/p>\n

Richard and Elizabeth had a large family of 12 children –<\/p>\n
